Abstract
823,301. Moulding-machines. HANSBERG, F. March 18, 1957 [March 23, 1956; Feb. 22, 1957], No. 8871/57. Class 83 (1). Foundry moulds and cores are made by applying a compacted supply of sand or sandresin mix before the charging-aperture of the mould or core box, and suddenly applying suction to the box to cause the sand to penetrate abruptly and substantially free of air into the box-interior. The machine comprises a table 2 and two coaxial cylinders 18, 19 in which double-pistons 22, 23 are vertically reciprocable by compressed-air supplied through quickacting valves 26, 27 connected to a centralcontrol-valve 30. A suction nozzle 34 in the table 2 connects, through channels 35, 36, airfilter 37, air-washer 38, and channel 39 to the cylinder space above the piston 23. A sand container 4 having a valved outlet 12, is adjustably mounted on a bearing column 5. In operation, a core or mould-box 15, having filter-suction-ducts 49, is placed on the table 2 over the suction nozzle 34, and the sand container is placed thereon. When the pistons 22, 23 are raised by the application of compressed-air through valve 27, the air above them is expelled through valves 26, 42. The control valve 30 is then operated to apply compressedair through valve 26 to force the pistons downwardly, thereby creating a vacuum above piston 23 which draws sand into the box 15. Filter apertures 51, Fig. 4, at re-entrant portions of the box, or sealing means 56, are preferably provided. In a modification, the filter and washer, 37, 38 are replaced by a filter-capsule mounted in the table 2 between the box and the cylinder 19. The table may have coolant-channels for use when using a heated-box for shell-moulding, to cool the filter-layer and the suction-nozzle 14, Fig. 1 is a vibrator. Specification 763,036 is referred to.
