Abstract

823,097. Filters. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Nov. 20, 1957 [Nov. 21, 1956; Feb. 11, 1957], Nos. 35642/56 and 4656/57. Class 46. A filter comprises a tubular filtering element 15, housed in an open ended pot or container 14, which is clamped against a head member 13 by an axial screw 35 which screw into the structure 10, e.g. an internal combustion engine, on which the filter is mounted. The head member 13 is adapted to form a closure for a cavity 11 of the structure and is provided with an aperture 16 allowing communication between one side of the filter element and the cavity. The head member is provided with an axial passage 24 and a non-return valve 26 to allow by passing of the liquid then the filter becomes clogged. The head member 13 may also be provided with a liquid inlet passage 17 or this inlet may be provided in the wall of the container 14, thus the connection to the liquid supply is independent of the fixing of the head 16 in the cavity. The filter element is urged against discs 29 and 31 at either end by a spring 34. In a modified form the axial screw 35 is formed in two parts one part being screwed into the structure 10 and having an hexagonal head in the region of the boss 33 of the head member which is held against rotation by the disc 29 while a second screw extending from the bottom of the container screws into this hexagonal head.
