Abstract
822,916. Thermo-couples. DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER. April 30, 1956 [April 30, 1955], No. 13229/56. Class 37. A thermo-couple for measuring high temperatures, i.e. between 1500 and 2000 C., is disposed in a gas-tight non-metallic housing and comprises a first limb of an iridium-rhenium alloy and a second limb of iridium, tungsten, molybdenum, or an iridium-rhenium alloy of a composition different from that of the first limb; alternatively, the first limb may be of rhenium and the second of tungsten or molybdenum. The housing, which is made of an oxide with a melting-point of 2000 C. or greater, e.g. aluminium oxide, may be filled or flushed with inert gas or evacuated, getter metals being used to obtain a high vacuum, and may be sealed with an oxidic glaze mixture. The performances of selected thermo-electric combinations are compared, and the compositions of suitable oxidic glazes are given in the Specification.
