Abstract

822,631. Vapour burners. PARKINSON & COWAN Ltd. Nov. 22, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 35838/56. Class 75(1) In a short drum liquid fuel burner having inner and outer perforated shells 11, 12 forming between them an annular space in which vaporized fuel rising from the bottom 7 is burnt, the inner shell 11 is capped by a plate 16 having openings 19 formed by punching tongues 20 therein so that the tongues 20 direct air rising within the shell 11 to mix with gases emerging from the top of the annular space. The tongues 20 direct the rising air towards a wire coil 18 arranged above the annular space. An outer ring of holes 17 is also provided in the plate 16 to direct air on to the wire coil 18. A single separate deflector may also be mounted above the openings 79. If desired a central opening may be provided and surmounted by the deflector plate. A domed bottom plate 8 formed with the bottom 7 or the bottom of the inner perforated shell 11 is pierced with air admission holes 9. A wick 10 is disposed in the bottom 7 which bottom 7 is supplied with fuel from a constant level device. The inner shell 11 may also contain one or more baffles intermediate its top and bottom and each baffle may be flat or upwardly convex and contain perforations over the whole cross-section of the inner shell or there may be a peripheral space between the baffle and the inner shell.
