Dec. 27, 1956 [Dec. 27, 1955], No. 39335/56. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XI] A heating head for an electric soldering iron comprises an outer tubular shell encasing a heating element disposed in the wall of a supporting tube, e.g. of mica or miconite, wrapped with glass wool and a thin metallic sheathing. As shown, a supporting tube 2 has within its wall a heating element 3 and is wrapped with glass wool 9 and a thin non-oxidizing metallic sheathing 10 in the form of a wire fabric 10a or foil. The front portion of the tube 2 is provided with a further thin tubular sheet metal covering 12 and is pressed into an outer tubular shell 8. The other end of the tube 2, together with the glass wool and metallic sheathing, is held in a handle 18 by clamping means 15, 16 and 19. A metallic sleeve 4 located inside the tube 2 receives an exchangeable bit 5. A finger guard 17 is provided.
