[Also in Group VI] A filter chamber for blood transfusion is made of sterilisable material, such as nylon, in two similar sections 1, 2 sealed together with a filter screen 9, of nylon mesh, between them, to form a closed container with inlet and outlet tubes 6, 10. In an alternative form the filter is set obliquely across the chamber so as to be inclined to the vertical when in use and thereby provide a larger filtering area for a given size of container, see Fig. 2 (not shown). An unperforated plate may be placed on the filter element, opposite the inner end of the inlet tube, to spread incoming blood over the surface of the screen. This is particularly advantageous when the blood is forced through under pressure and consequently strikes the filter element as a jet.
