Abstract

822,082. Direct-acting two-stroke fuel-injection engines. BURION, E. P. March 29, 1957 [April 24, 1956], No. 10418/57. Classes 7(2) and 7(3) Working cylinders 7, 8, Fig. 1, with at each end free pistons 5, 6 mounting a compressor piston 4, have centrally a common precombustion chamber 13, Fig. 3, into which, e.g. via an aligned duct 31, a fuel injector 26 emerges. The injector is mounted in the journal 14 of a pistonsynchronizing crank mechanism 22, has a cooling space 17 connected to the cylinder water jackets 19 by ducts 18 and is shown combined with a pump 27 actuated by a bell-crank 29 from a cam 30. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the duct 31 is dispensed with, while the injector 26 has no pump and may be duplicated by an opposed injector mounted in the journal 14a of a further piston-synchronizing crank mechanism. Fig. 4 shows injectors 12 1 , 12 2 and a single piston-synchronizing crank mechanism in the form of a circular plate 22, journalled at 21 1 and having connecting rods 23, linked to rods extending axially and centrally from the compressor pistons 4 through partitions between the compressor and engine compartments. Teeth 25, drive a feed pump or pumps for the injectors 12 1 , 12 2 or the injectors may incorporate pumps lever-driven from a cam or cams on a pinion meshing the teeth 25 1 . The plate 22, may be replaced by a pinion meshing racks replacing the rods 23 1 . The cylinders 7, 8 may have their scavenging and exhaust ports respectively interconnected, and the pistons 4 may be doubleacting, especially if they supply scavenging and charging air.
