Abstract

822,043. Supporting ceiling panels. PALMER, P. A. Aug. 9, 1956 [Oct. 25, 1955], No. 24352/56. Class 20(4) [Also in Group XXXVI] Ceiling panels are suspended by T-sectioned rails, Fig. 2, the flanges 7 of which enter recesses in the edges of the panels. To join two lengths of rail, plates 15, 16 are slid into grooves 1, 5, provided in the webs of the rails the plates bridging the gap 40 between the two lengths and allowing for slight variations between the lengths of the rails and that of the ceiling, To connect an end of a rail to an adjoining wall an angle plate is employed, one limb of which engages groove 1 and the other limb being nailed or screwed to the wall. A plate 20, Fig. 4, may have one limb engaging groove 5 and part 22 abutting the wall, the portion 21 which extends below flange 7 resting on the top edge of a ceiling moulding to position the rail assembly relative to the moulding. To suspend the rail from the rough ceiling intermediate its ends, a plate 24, Fig. 6, having tongues 27, 28, engaging groove 1 is connected by bolt 33, engaging one of several sloping slots 25, with an angle piece 29 screwed at 32 to the rough ceiling. To strengthen the webs, plates may engage grooves 5, the plates having leads which are pressed in by a tool after the plates have been placed in the grooves. To hold electric wiring in position, plates are used having pressed out tongues to engage grooves 1 and a fork shaped upper portion.
