Abstract
820,689. Casting-machines. PLASCO Ltd. Dec. 23, 1957, No. 39816/57. Class 83 (1). [Also in Groups XII and XVIII] A die-casting machine comprises a pot for molten metal, a goose-neck and pump assemblage which is pivotally mounted to allow the goose-neck to engage and disengage the dies, and means for maintaining a predetermined level in the pot, and inert gas above said level, and which includes an automatic feed mechanism arranged to maintain an ingot of metal in and above an aperture in the top wall of the pot and to feed the ingot into the pot to replenish the supply of metal in the pot. In one embodiment for casing magnesium, Figs. 1 and 1a, the melting-pot 10 and the goose-neck assembly are pivoted on a pivot 22, and move as a whole to disengage the nozzle 17 from the dies 18, 19. The pot is fed by an ingot 32 suspended on a chain 36. The downward movement of the ingot, due to gravity, is stopped by a brake 54 actuated through a solenoid 57, when the level 26 rises to its predetermined position, a float 65 thereupon closing a switch 60 in the solenoid circuit. Blades 49 on a gear-wheel 48 which rotates at high speed during the downward movement of the ingot, act as a governor device. In a modification, the goose-neck and pump assembly is pivoted for movement, the pot remaining stationary.
