Abstract

820,656. Pliers. LUERS, G. Feb. 6, 1957, No. 4130/57. Class 61. [Also in Group XXXVI] A wire stripper comprises cutting tools 19, 20 which consist, at least at the edges, of a material which is sufficiently hard to impress or cut the insulation, but soft enough to be deformed by excessive pressure against the wire. Suitable materials are hard woods, soft metals and plastics. The stripper may comprise a pair of pincers to one arm 11 of which a jaw 12 is secured. A jaw 14 is pivotally attached to the other arm 10 and urged there-against by an adjustable spring 16. The jaws carry the cutting tools 19, 20 which may comprise bevelled members arranged so that members 24, 21 slide over members 22, 23 respectively. The insulated wire is inserted in the space between the members and the pincers closed to sever the insulation. The tools 19, 20 may be arranged to one side of the arms 10, 11 and the arms may be provided with additional cutting edges to sever the wire. In an alternative form, Fig. 5 (not shown), the jaws may be electrically heated and elastically secured to the pincer arms by steel wires.
