Abstract

820,613. Vices. SHEFFIELD TWIST DRILL & STEEL CO. Ltd. March 1, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6506/55. Class 61. In a vice at least one of the work-clamping jaws 16 is fitted with a detachable and reversible jaw plate 19 that has one plane face 23 and one face 24 on which there are projecting teeth or lugs 25. The teeth or lugs are provided to grip irregularly shaped workpieces and may be assembled either as shown in Fig. 3 or with the plate inverted and the lugs on the lower half of the plate, Fig. 4 (not shown). Alternatively the teeth or lugs may be housed in a recess 26 in the abutment face 20 and the workpiece gripped by the plane face of the jaw plate. The jaw plate may be secured to the abutment face by countersunk headed screws 21 engaging holes 22 which are countersunk at both ends The teeth or lugs may be spaced apart longitudinally and engage in a longitudinal recess in the abutment face, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
