Abstract
Bubbles of gas are removed from the walls of a container, i.e a jam, marmalade or syrup container, by treating the wall of the container to ultrasonic vibrations, the treatment being performed while the material is at such a temperature that bubbles of the gas can rise through the material by their own buoyancy. The ultrasonic vibrations may be transmitted to the wall of the container by means of a gas or a liquid. Preferably the container is immersed in a trough of water in which is immersed a transducer emitting ultrasonic vibrations. The Provisional Specification describes the treatment of materials by a combination of at least two methods including centrifuging; scrubbing of the inner walls, and ultrasonic vibration treatments.
