Abstract

820,117. Valves. CRANE CO. Dec. 29, 1955, No. 37240/55. Class 135. A gate valve comprises a casing formed by two complementary sections 2, 3, Fig. 1, and has a reciprocable closure member 16, Fig. 2. A traversely extending member 13, Fig. 4, serves to align the two sections during assembly and forms a stop for the closure member. The central adjoining flanges 8, 9, Fig. 2, of each section are recessed to receive the member 13 and are joined by bolts 18 or in any other suitable manner such as brazing, soldering or welding. The member 13 may be of soft resilient material and so serve as a gasket as well as a stop for the valve closure member. The member 13 may however, as shown, have a dovetail groove for receiving an insert 15 of lead or rubber for example. The closure member 16 is carried by a support member 28, Fig. 1, mounted on the stem 27 screwed into a journal 26 formed at the top of two bracket arms 24 each extending from a platform 20 of one of the casing sections. A cover-plate 35 is bolted to the flanges 8, 9 at each side so as to enclose the member 13. Removal of one or both of the cover plates 35 permits of easy cleaning, replacement or repair.
