Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A shock absorber comprises a piston having a resiliently flexible disc 3 secured concentrically to its stem and forming an annular clearance with a surrounding skirt 7 or the cylinder wall, the piston head having at least one opening 11 allowing free flow of fluid from one side to another in either direction with accompanying deformation of the disc to vary the effective area of the annular clearance. The disc may comprise several laminations, which may be of different coefficients of expansion for temperature compensation. Support members may be arranged on opposite sides of the disc, e.g. to allow deformation in one direction more easily than in the other.
