Abstract
820,090. Trueing grinding wheels. KLINGELNBERG, G. JAEGER, G. KLINGELNBERG, H. W. and BAUM, CO. [trading as KLINGELNBERG SOHNE W. F.]. March 26, 1957, No. 9840/57. Class 60. A method for the form dressing of a grinding wheel 1, Fig. 1, used for the form grinding of worms comprises mounting a generator dressing attachment in the workhead spindle 2 of the grinding machine to dress one flank of the grinding wheel, using this dressed flank to plunge-cut grind a template 18, Fig. 4, and employing this template in a template-controlled dressing device, Figs. 9 and 10, to form dress both flanks of the grinding wheel. One flank of the grinding wheel is dressed by a diamond 10, Fig. 1, carried on a rest 11, which can be transversely adjusted to the base circle diameter of the worm to be ground on a slide 9 carried on guide rods 8 ; the rods 8, can be adjusted to the lead angle of the worm by a swivel arm 7 mounted in a quadrant 4 secured to the workhead spindle 2. The dressed flank of the grinding wheel is then used to plungecut grind a template 18, Fig. 4, mounted on a swivel arm 17 in a bracket 12 disposed between the centres of the grinding machine ; the swivel arm can be adjusted in a quadrant to the lead angle of the worm, and the bracket can be set horizontal by means of a spirit level 15. The template 36, Fig. 9, so formed, is clampled by a member 35 to the form dressing device wherein it imparts axial movement to a follower 34 during the back-and-forth movements of a valve 30 in guides 29. The follower is adjustablysecured to a sleeve 33 having a slotted cooperation with an eccentrically-mounted pin 38 to rotate a shaft 40. The opposite end of this shaft is connected to a disc 41 carrying two eccentric pins 42, 43, Fig. 10, engaging slots in guide-bars 46, 47 to which are attached dressing diamonds 50, 51 operative on the grinding wheel. The diamond 51 thus follows the contour of the template 36, and the diamond 50 a mirrorimage of the contour, to dress both flanks of the grinding wheel during the movements of the valve 30. The guide-bars and diamonds are spring-urged apart to eliminate backlash between the template and the diamonds. The back-and-forth movement of the valve 30 is controlled by a hydraulic plunger 31 to which it is connected by a peg 32 ; springs 54, 55 retain the valve 30 in its top position when the hydraulic pressure is removed. During the movements of the plunger 31, a pin 59 causes rotation of a sleeve 57 and rod 58 to rock a diamond 61 across the periphery of the grinding wheel. The template dressing device may be adjusted radially of the grinding wheel by hand through a screw 62 or by power through a pinion 63 and feed screw 64.
