Abstract

1393315 Grinding TOYODA KOKI KK 14 March 1973 [21 March 1972] 12377/73 Heading B3D Apparatus for generating an epitrochoidal surface includes a rotating sleeve 12 which rotatably carries a work spindle 11 with a given eccentricity with respect to the sleeve and is mounted on a work heed 2 adapted for pivotal motion about an axis P passing through the line of contact of a workpiece W and a grinding tool 8 rotatably carried by a tool rest 6. A gear 31 is secured to the work head 2 in concentric relationship with the sleeve 12, a gear 34 is secured to one end of the workspindle 11, and gears 32, 33 meshing with the gears 31, 34 respectively are fixedly mounted in co-axia relationship with each other on a support shaft 35 rotatably carried by the sleeve 12. The sleeve 12 is connected with a drive source for imparting via the gears 31-34 to the workspindle 11 a given rate of rotation relative to its rate of revolution about the axis of the sleeve 12. The work head 2 is supported on the upper surface 10 of a fixed bed 1 for oscillation about a pivot 20 coaxial with the axis P, and the bed 1 carries slides 4a for a saddle 5 having guides 5a for the tool rest 6. Adjustment of the saddle along the slides compensates for dressing of the grinding wheel 8 by a tool 9a. The wheel 8 may be reciprocated vertically during grinding. A drive source is coupled to a bevel gear 47 which via gears 46, 44 coaxial with the pivot 20, drives gears 43 and 42 supported on a common shaft in the work head 2. Drive from the gear 42 is transmitted to a worm 41 and thence to a worm-wheel 40 fixed to the sleeve 12, and is also transmitted via gears 53 and 52 to a crank arm 50 having a slider 55 received and guided in a groove 57 in a block 56 fixed to the bed 1 so as to produce the oscillation of the work head 2. Each of the gears 31, 34 may be in two parts interconnected by a spring to prevent backlash.
