Abstract

819,914. Filters. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. Jan. 17, 1956 [Jan. 20, 1955], No. 1579/56. Class 46. [Also in Group XII] Liquid for washing air is withdrawn by a pump (not shown) through an aperture 22 in the false bottom of a cylindrical casing 10, Fig. 2, and after being sprayed in contact with the air rising through the casing, (see Group XII) and being trapped by bafflles, falls back onto the false bottom. It drains into a passage 102 and out under an edge 104 of the casing 10 (projecting below the normal liquid level to provide an air seal) into a recirculation trough 46 which extends forwards to communicate by a quadrant-shaped "window" 50, Fig. 2, with an open-topped tank portion 56, Figs. 2 and 5, communicating in turn with the region beneath the false bottom of the casing 10 by a cut-away portion 58 in the casing wall. The "window" is provided in the right-hand (inclined) wall 62 on the tank portion 56 and is covered on the downstream side by a rotating wheel 54, Fig. 8, provided with annular layers 60 of mesh screen which together with outer and inner cylindrical portions 120 and 130 and radial vanes 126 form eight pockets 132 which entrap the dirt and slide it (in the anticlockwise direction, Fig. 2) up the wall 62 to a lip 64, Fig. 5, surmounting the wall, over which they discharge it on to an endless conveyer 68, Fig. 2, located beyond the end of the trough 46 ; (the bottom, 110, of the latter is shown in Fig. 5). Dirt adhering to the screen is removed by a spray 66 of liquid pumped up (Fig. 5) from the tank portion 56. Alternatively air may be used. The wheel 54 is driven by a motor 180 through universal joints 162, 164. Specification 815,470 [Group XII] is referred to.
