Abstract
689.544. Centrifugal-separators. ESCHER WYSS AKT.-GES. Aug. 14, 1951 [Sept. 2, 19501. No. 19185/51. Class 23 [Also in Group XXVI] A continuously acting strainer separator comprises a rotatable basket 1, a reciprocating member 7, a distributing chamber 8' moving with the member, and a feed pipe having a delivery section 11 following the movements of the chamber and connected thereto in a substantially fluid tight manner. The member 7 rotates with the basket and is reciprocated during centrifuging to feed separated solid along the basket wall to the discharge aperture 15 whilst separated liquid is collected in chambers 14. The delivery section of the feed pipe is connected to a storage tank 9 by a flexible section 10 and is attached to the member 7 by a rod 7<SP>1</SP>, a stuffing box 12 being provided. at its entry to the distributing chamber. An internal partition 16 may be fitted in the distributing chamber to facilitate a preliminary separation of liquid and solid, the liquid from this separation being withdrawn through a pipe 8 or alternatively passing through a screen in the partition. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) a conical housing surrounds the distributing chamber and the stuffing box to collect matter leaking therefrom and lead it for centrifugal treatment in the basket. In further modifications, Figs. 4 ... 6 (not shown) the delivery port of the feed pipe is pivotally mounted on the machine housing; and the stuffing box is replaced by a ring having a spherical surface and spring urged onto a mating surface on the pipe. A control valve may be provided in the feed pipe, and it may be automatically controlled to shut off the feed when the speed of the basket falls below a certain value.
