819,167. Electric locomotives. ZAVODY, V. I. LENINA NARODNI PODNIK, and GROLMUS, M. Nov. 22, 1955 [Nov. 23, 1954], No. 33413/55. Class 103(6) An electric locomotive of the type in which the body is connected to the bogies by spherical pivots A, B and the axles have each a drive motor, is provided with automatically operated air-pressure cylinders 1...4, the cylinders 1, 2 being brought into use when the locomotive moves in a direction to the right and the cylinders 3, 4 being brought into use when the locomotive moves in the opposite direction so that the three leading axles during traction are subjected substantially to the same load. Assuming that the locomotive is to be moved to the right, the force Pl applied to the cylinder 1 and the force P2 applied to the cylinder 2 are derived from the formulae where V is the tractive force exerted by each motor at the circumference of the two wheels driven thereby and the other letters in the formulae are as indicated in the Figure. In a modification, the cylinders 2 and 4 are dispensed with, in which case to achieve the desired result the condition a + g/2a = h/p must be fulfiled.
