Abstract
818,848. Valves. PIRELLI S.p.A. Dec. 31, 1956 [Dec. 30, 1955], No. 39698/56. Class 135. A tyre inner tube inflating valve has means for providing an air-tight seal of the hole in the rim through which the valve stem extends comprising an annular body of rubber or like resilient material encircling the valve stem and having a peripheral portion which is pressed against the outer edge and/or wall of the hole in the wheel rim by clamping means forming part of the valve assembly. In the Figure the annular body is provided by a boss like enlargement 5 of the wall of the inner tube 3 and is pressed into contact with the wall of the hole 6 in the wheel rim 1 by means of a spreader ring 11 acting under the thrust of a clamping nut 8 threaded on the valve stem 4. In another embodiment the annular body is provided by a gasket having an axially directed peripheral flange portion adapted under the pressure of a clamping nut threaded on the valve stem to telescope over a boss-like enlargement of the inner tube wall surrounding the stem and to seal the hole in the wheel rim. In both embodiments the camping nut may be replaced by the valve cap provided with an axial extension of its peripheral wall to act as the clamping means.
