Abstract
721,251. Pneumatic tyres. MARTIN, J. Oct. 14, 1953 [Sept. 23, 1952]. No. 23800/52. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre inner tube is formed of flexible substantially inextensible material, such as fabric reinforced rubber or the like, and of a size to fit a wheel rim M whilst leaving an air space D within an outer cover E, the tube having an inflation valve H and communicating with the air space D via a loaded valve J whereby the air pressure within the tube on inflation will be greater than that in the air space D. The tube may be formed to assume the sectional shape shown in Fig. 1 when deflated to facilitate assembly on a wheel rim and the valve J may comprise a spring loaded headed stem 'I cooperating with a valve seating bush in the tube wall. In operation the higher pressure within the tube serves to press the beads of the tyre cover E against the rim flanges to seal the air space D.
