Abstract
818,558. Welding by fusion. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Aug. 27, 1957 [Sept. 7, 1956], No. 26960/57. Class 83 (4). In submerged arc welding electrode rods in end-to-end engagement are fed to the are, each rod being oval or elongated in crosssection and being provided with a tongue 4 on one end and a slot 3, in which the tongue of an adjacent electrode engages on the other end. The rods are fed from a magazine to feed rolls 8, 8 which close the walls 3a of the slot about the tapering tongue and current is supplied to the rods by a contact 7. Some resistance heating takes place at the joint to effect welding thereof. Spring-pressed jaws 5 of copper or copper alloy guide and cool the rods below the contact. The slots and tongues may be formed by punching or cutting.
