Abstract
818,094. Laminates; coated calico. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. Oct. 30, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 29424/56. Class 140. A trim panel comprises a backing member 10, a layer of padding material 12 and a covering sheet 11 of material such as leather, leathercloth or upholstery material of a synthetic resin, the cover sheet being bonded to the backing member in predetermined locations by a calico tape or tapes 13 coated on its two sides with two different adhesives and interposed between the backing member and the covering sheet. The backing member may be of, e.g., hardboard, wood, cardboard or papier mache. The padding material may be wadding or foamed polyurethane. The adhesives on the tapes may be polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride, one side may be coated more heavily than the other, and the adhesive on one side may be pigmented for identification. The tape may be placed (as shown) between the backing member and the padding material, or between the padding material and the cover sheet, or two tapes may be used, one in each position. Holes may be provided in the backing member to assist in accurate location of the tapes. Bonding is effected by heat and pressure, e.g. by means of heated dies 14 to compress locally the padding layer and enable the tapes to bond through it and to the other layers.
