Abstract
817,352. Rotary motors. MILES Ltd., F. G., and MILES, J. J. Nov. 2, 1956 [Aug. 2, 1955], No. 22194/55. Class 110 (2). [Also in Group XXX] A pneumatic actuator comprises a screwjack 50, 58 or a worm and worm-wheel pair which is irreversibly driven by a turbine or a radial-vane type of rotary motor 24 through a reduction gear train reversibly operated by a pneumatically controlled gate valve. The gear train comprises two stages of epicyclic reduction gearing 36, 38, pinions 40, 50 and idlers 42, 44 which are mounted on a carrier 46 pivoted to the end plate 12 of the actuator, movement of the carrier being effected by a pinion 54 which is carried by the gate valve and meshes with a rack 52 formed on the carrier. The actuator may be operated by compressed-air or carbondioxide.
