Abstract

817,344. Screw conveyers. SALMOND, C. M., [trading as YOUNG & SON, A]. Aug. 16, 1957 [May 18, 1956], No. 15556/56. Class 78 (1). Grain is conveyed through a cylindrical conduit 1 made of polythene by a rotatable metal spiral 2 formed from strip of square cross-section, deformation of which during operation is resisted by a tension wire 16 passed axially therethrough and connected thereto only at its ends. A reversible electric motor 3 is connected by chain-and-sprocket gearing to a shaft 9 to which a boss 6 is secured by a set-screw 10. The end 7 of of the spiral is secured to the boss by welding and a clamp 8. One end of the wire 16 is brazed to the end 17 of the spiral and the other end is clamped to the boss 6 by a setscrew 18. The area of the inlet 4 is varied by moving the sleeve 20 longitudinally.
