Abstract

558,746. Screw conveyers. HOBBS, E. M., and NOVADEL, Ltd. June 15, 1942, No. 8167. [Class 78 (i)] A screw conveyer for feeding powdered material comprises a wire 1 of rectangular cross-section bent into the shape of a helix and enclosed within a casing 3 having inlet and outlet openings. As shown, the casing 3 is situated at the base of a feed hopper 6 and material is fed to the conveyer, which is connected to a shaft 4 driven by a gear wheel 5, through an opening 7 in the upper part of the casing and discharged into an outlet duct or a hopper 8. The length of the larger side of the cross-section of the wire, which extends radially of the helix, is between 0.175 and 0.33, and preferably 0.22, of the outside diameter of the helix.
