Abstract

817,152. Rollers. FRASER & SONS Ltd., D. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 19, 1954], No. 30041/54. Class 42 (2). [Also in Group IX] A package-driving roller for yarn winding machines having a package-engaging surface, one portion of which is formed to provide a greater degree of local deformation of a portion of the surface of the package nearer one end of the package than the other end. As shown in Fig. 1, flutes 2 extend parallel to the roller axis for over half the length of the roller. In another embodiment the roller is frusto-conical and has flutes tapering from a maximum at one end of the roller to nothing at a point beyond the mid-point of the roller. In a further embodiment the flutes of a cylindrical roller are skew to the axis of the roller and taper in both directions from a point between the ends of the roller. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 a band 16 of the roller surface towards one end is knurled. According to the Provisional Specification the roller surface may be sand-blasted towards one end.
