Abstract

817,085. Railway signals. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 19, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 36065/57. Class 105. In a railway track signalling arrangement comprising an A.C.-excited transmitting coil 1 inductively coupled with a receiving coil 2 adjacent a track rail S so that variation of the coupling by presence of a train-wheel R produces a signal in the receiving coil, electrically conductive screening-plates 10, 20 are disposed below the coils to weaken that part Fu of the coupling flux not normally influenced by the wheel so that the relative variation of the total coupling effected by the presence of the wheel is increased. The coils 1, 2 may be disposed on the same side of the rail, or as shown, on opposite sides, and in each case the screening plates 10, 20 permit the coils to be disposed below the level of the upper edge of the rail to avoid physical damage. When disposed on the same side of the rail, the coils may be set at a level to produce a signal under the influence of a brake in raised position or may be lowered to operate with the wheel only. Further the coils may be disposed horizontally, or at an angle thereto, as shown.
