Abstract

816,732. Heating buildings; heating water. LANDIS & GYR A.G. Oct. 6, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1954], No. 28538/55. Classes 64(1) and 64(2) [Also in Group XX] In a tenement house, each apartment 13 has a central heating system, including space-heaters 30, a heater 50 for draw-off water and an external heat meter 21, connected to main flow and return pipes 15 and 16 from a furnace room 11 or from long-distance heating conduits and each space-heater has a by-pass 32 controlled by a constant-quantity, three-way valve 31, e.g. as described in Specification 686,064, which ensures that the total flow through the space-heater and by-pass is constant irrespective of the valve setting so that the heat meter 21 does not require to measure volume to record the apartment heat-consumption. The space-heaters 30 may be in series or in parallel with one another and in the return pipe from these is arranged the water-heater 50 in which water is heated in a coil 52 before passing to taps 53 and which may also heat a room. The heat-meter, located on a staircase 12, has thermometers 22, 23 in the apartment flow and return pipes respectively and integrates the temperature difference and time. A constant-quantity valve 24 and a by-pass with a throttle valve 27 control the apartment supply and a similiar arrangement of valves 55, 57 and by-pass controls the space-heating. The apartment system can be by-passed wholly or partially by use of the three-way valves 24, 55 the flow resistance of the by-passes being adapted to that of the main flow by means of the throttle valves 27, 57. As shown, there is a large boiler 60 for winter use and a small boiler 61 for summer use, the selection of boiler being made by three-way valves 62. Instead of the boiler 61, electric elements may be provided in the water-heaters 50. A circulating pump 64 is included in the main return pipe 16. A pipe 17, into which each apartment system may be emptied through a valve 20 if necessary, discharges to a drain 65. Specification 689,428 also is referred to.
