Abstract
816,530. Electric igniters for explosives. ROCHAT, J. April 16, 1957 [April 30, 1956], No. 12440/57. Class 9(1) An igniter similar to that described in Specification 735,609 comprises a metal sleeve 1 connected to the positive pole of a voltage source T and having a stepped bore forming a shoulder 1a on which rests a cylinder 2 made of an aluminium alloy. A metal rod 3 is secured in a blind hole 2a in the cylinder 2 and through a contact switch D is connected to the source T. If the igniter is in a projectile, the switch D may be arranged to close on impact. Before inserting the cylinder 2 in the sleeve 1 an oxide layer 2b is formed on the whole of its free surface by anodization using the rod 3 as a pole. The oxide layer is then punctured on the flat surface opposite the rod 3 and one or more layers 5 of a colloidal metal, e.g. silver, deposited on that surface and in the puncture 4 as in the earlier Specification. After heating to a temperature between 600‹ and 700‹C. to bake the layer 5, the cylinder is placed in the sleeve 1.
