Abstract

816,134. Automatic volume control. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Dec. 1, 1955 [Dec. 14, 1954], No. 36225/54. Class 40 (4). In a carrier transmission system a repeater includes a line amplifier of which the gain is automatically adjusted in accordance with the received level of a pilot current under the control of a feedback loop which includes a Miller integrator circuit arranged to minimize the envelope gain of the regulated amplifier characteristic. As shown, the pilot signal is passed through the line amplifier, selected by means of a narrow-passband filter, passed through a pilot amplifier, and extended over leads A1 and A2 to a detector D. The output from the detector is smoothed by a Miller integrator circuit V1, C and applied through a D.C. amplifier V2 and lead T to a thermistor which controls the gain of the line amplifier in known manner. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 705,901, [Group XL (c)].
