Abstract

622,787. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 9, 1947, No. 9411. Convention date, June 20, 1942. [Class 40 (vi)] [Also in Group XXXIX] In a multi-channel carrier system with automatic gain control at repeater stations, two parallel paths carry the signal currents to the input of the repeater, only one of the paths including means controlled by an auxiliary current for adjusting the signal level. As shown in the Figure, these two paths may constitute feedback paths A and B for the repeater 1. Path A, which includes an attenuator and a buffer amplifier introduces a positive feedback voltage proportional to the output voltage of the repeater 1, while path B, which includes a variable mu tube 7, controlled by the pilot current derived by filter 8, amplifier 9, and rectifier 10 from the output of the repeater, in such manner that its amplification factor is inversely proportional to the pilot voltage, and attenuation and phase correctors 11, introduces a positive feedback which increases as the output level of the repeater falls. This rate of increase is such as to maintain the repeater output level substantially constant.
