Abstract
815,886. Making composite tubes. BUNDY TUBING CO. Aug. 13, 1957 [Sept. 13, 1956], No. 25466/57. Class 83 (2). A method of forming composite or plural wall tubing comprises placing a strip of stock having spaced side edges within a length of tubing having a circumferentially continuous wall and reducing the diameter of said tubing until said side edges of the stock are brought into abutting relationship. In an embodiment the curved metal strip 5, which is coated on its outer and inner surfaces with a bonding metal, e.g. copper, is inserted in a steel tube 1 and the assembly is drawn through a die to reduce the diameter of the tube 1 and to squeeze the strip 5 into full tubular form with the edges of the strip coming into abutment as at 11 (Fig. 5). The assembly is finally heat treated to effect the bonding at about 2050‹ F. The reduced composite tube may have an outside diameter of 0.220 inch, a wall thickness of 0.066 inch and an inside diameter of 0.088 inch.
