Abstract
815,777. Electrical apparatus assemblies. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 11, 1958, No. 4388/58. Class 37. An arrangement for mounting electrical equipment comprises a base framework including two spaced vertical beam members, on one side of which is mounted a horizontal shelf assembly having a shelf which supports an apparatus unit assembly. At the rear of the shelf is a socket-holder which is held loosely imprisoned and which mates with plug terminals mounted on the rear end of the apparatus unit assembly. With reference to Fig. 1, two beam members 1, 2 support sub-rack channels 3, 4 to the front of which is fixed a metal frame 5, into which are assembled socket holders 6, only one of which is shown. These socket holders may be moved laterally and the method of fixing is shown in Fig. 2, the top of the holder is retained by a U-section channel 25 and once placed into the required position unwanted lateral movement is prevented by notches 28 (only some of which are shown) which engage with pins on the back of the holder. The holder may be held imprisoned in the frame by a metal strip or alternatively by the shelf 9 as shown in Fig. 1. This shelf 9 comprises a metal sheet with the front and back edges turned over as at 20, and is provided with two rows of equally spaced slots 21. These slots may extend along substantially the whole length of the shelf and only some of them are shown. The slots are provided for locating spacing strips 22 each of which has two tongues on the lower edge which fit into the slots. These strips are provided as guides for locating the apparatus containers, and the position of both these and of the socket holders can be readily adjusted for containers of different widths. The containers may be of the form shown in Fig. 3, which comprises a base 36 over which a cover 37 is slipped and to which is fixed the plug holder 38. In order to assist in removing the container a cam device may be fitted on to the front edge of the underside of the cover so that when the cam is rotated the container is eased forward. Alternatively, Fig. 6 (not shown), release is effected by the hinged lid of the container bearing against the shelf. One form of the inside of the container is shown in Fig. 7. The rear base-plate 49 is provided with flanges 50, 51 each of which has a number of holes 53. Three similar panels 54, 55, 56 are provided, each of them having metal pins 57, 58 at its rear corners, which engage with the holes to form hinges. In order to hold the front ends of the panels together metal corner elements 63, 64 are provided which slip on to the corners of the panels, as shown. Circuit elements (not shown) may be mounted on the panels, and by removing the clips 63, 64 the panels may be opened out, giving easy access to these elements.
