Abstract

815,592. Contacting gases with liquids. AJEM LABORATORIES Inc. Sept. 26, 1955 [Sept. 27, 1954 ; June 16, 1955], No. 27372/55. Class 55 (2). Apparatus wherein a gas is contacted with a liquid comprises two spaced sinuous plates 14 and 16 (Fig. 2) between which the gas is drawn by a fan 12 and which are irrigated from a trough 23 with liquid in an amount greater than that required to maintain an unbroken film of liquid on the plates so that liquid falls from a convex portion of one wall towards an adjacent but lower convex portion of the other wall, the washed gas passes out of the apparatus through a chamber 10 containing moisture-removing plates 16. As shown, adapted as a paint spray booth, the apparatus also has a screen 4 washed with liquid from a trough 22. In modifications the spacing of the two sinuous plates may increase or decrease upwardly. In a further modification (Fig. 7) the plate 14 has an extension 5 so that the washed gas passes downwardly into the chamber 10. Baffles 29 and 7 are provided to accelerate the flow of gas at these points and the plates 14 and 16 are irrigated with liquid from a pipe 56.
