815,434. Winding and reeling. BREITENBACH MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI G.m.b.H., W. Jan. 31, 1956 [Jan. 31, 1955; Jan. 9, 1956], No. 2996/56. Class 83 (4). A wire-winding machine which is capable of operating either in the Garret systemwith the winding drum rotating -or in the Edenborn systemwith the said drum stationary and the winding arm rotating- is characterized in that a winding disc carrying the winding arm carries two planet pinions, one rolling on a fixed sun-wheel and the other meshing with a sun-wheel fixed or slidingly keyed to the winding drum. A winding disc 8, Fig. 1, carrying a winding, arm, is rotated by a shaft A and carries on a half shaft B, a pinion C meshing with a fixed sun-wheel D and, on a half shaft 19, a pinion 18 meshing with a sun-wheel 20 fixed on a winding drum 15. A clutch 1 is interposed between the two half shafts 19 and B and in one position it connects the two half shafts 19, B so that the pinion 18 rolls on the sun-wheel 20 and the drum 15 is stationary. In the other position the clutch disengages the half shaft B and engages dogs on the winding disc 8 thus preventing the half shaft 19 from rotating. The pinion 18 is then solid with the sun-wheel 20 and the drum 15 is rotated directly by the winding disc 8. In a modification, Fig. 4, a rotating winding disc 5 carries pinions 6, 7 on a common shaft 9, the pinion 7 meshing with a fixed sun-wheel 28 and the pinion 6 with a sun-wheel 4 keyed on a flange 21 of the drum 3. To rotate the drum the sun-wheel 4 is slid by a means 10 to disengage the pinion 6 and engage clutch dogs on the winding disc 5.
