Abstract
815,119. Honeycomb paper &c. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd., and CLARK, F. M. May 24, 1957 [June 8, 1956], No. 17834/56. Class 96. A honeycomb or like hexagonal cell material is formed of paper or paper-base sheet material, e.g. resin-impregnated paper, by so arranging the constituent sheets and sticking them together by parallel lines of adhesive that when expanded there are complete cell edges along both sides. As shown, this may be done by turning in both edges of each sheet to an extent substantially equal to the width of the glue line. The first sheet 1 is laid with its inturned edges uppermost and is then glued in the usual parallel lines of which the outermost fall on the inturned edges 2, 3. The next sheet 4 is placed with its inturned edges downwards so that they are stuck to the inturned edges of the first sheet. The second sheet 4 is then given glue lines staggered between those of the first, and the third sheet 5 positioned in the same way as sheet 1, and so on until the required number of sheets has been built up. After adhesion of the sheets the stack is expanded and, if necessary the resin-impregnated paper is cured. In a modification, alternate sheets only have the inturned edges, the remaining sheets being narrower by the width of these inturned edges. Panels according to the invention may be joined together by nesting their complete cell edges and sticking them together.
