Abstract

1,209,011. Laminates comprising straws. STRAMIT G.m.b.H. & CO. K.G. 17 Jan., 1969 [20 Jan., 1968], No. 2908/69. Heading B5N. A roofing tile comprises a core of compressed plant stalk material wherein stalks lie parallel to each other and have been partly adhered by heat treatment, which core is faced with sheet material and reinforced with rigid strips lying on edge parallel to the stalks in the core thickness, the strips being spaced by at least half the core thickness and having a width at least half the core thickness. The stalks may be aligned parallel to the core width and the strips may have a width equal to the core thickness. The stalks may be straws or reeds, the strips may be wood or vulcanized fibre sheet, and the facing sheets may be paper or cardboard, adhesively secured to the core and extending over the sides thereof to envelop it. Paper strips may be provided at the tile ends. The core may be formed by packing straws into a mould and simultaneously inserting the strips which can be provided with glue to ensure adhesion; the straws are adhered by heating to 250-280‹ C. If an obtuse-angled ram is used for packing, the strips and stalks will be correspondingly shaped.
