Abstract
815,010. Respiratory appliances. WILKINS, E. T. Jan. 31, 1958 [Nov. 7, 1956], No. 34044/56. Class 81 (2). A mask 11, which may be of transparent plastic material, is held slightly spaced from the wearer's face, and a container 14 is provided to emit a gaseous or vaporous reagent into the intervening space so as to neutralize atmospheric acid in fog &c. The mask may be made from a flat sheet of material with a V-cut in its lower edge so that the edges of the cut may be overlapped and held together by press studs 16. Other studs 18 are provided to carry a chin strap and the whole mask is held in position by elastic head straps 13. The container 14 may enclose ammonium carbonate, vapour from which passes out through a small vent hole, or alternatively it may hold cotton wool soaked in a liquid source of ammonia.
