Abstract

814,976. Moulding radio reflectors. CLEMENTS, H. J. March 25, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9091/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XL(c)] A radio reflector is formed by covering the face of a shaped lattice of metal or other material with a plastic layer and then coating the outer face of the layer with metal. In one method of applying the plastic layer to the lattice the latter 10, 11 is inverted and supported by a structure 20. A sheet 21 of flexible material such as rubber extends over the top of a box 22 beneath the lattice and on top of the rubber is laid the layer 13 of plastic in a mouldable condition. Pressure inside the box is raised to press the layer against the lattice and maintained until the plastic is curved and attached to the lattice. The layer may be of woven glass cloth impregnated with a polyester resin or asbestos felt and a phenolic or epoxy resin. In a modified constructional method a grid of close mesh wire is covered with a material to prevent adhesion and placed over the plastic layer before pressure is applied. After the layer has been formed to the required shape the grid is removed and the formed layer bonded to the lattice.
