Abstract
814,411. Photographic films. ILFORD Ltd. June 7, 1957 [Aug. 2, 1956], No. 23875/56. Class 98(2) Photographic film base comprises an oriented styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer. It may be subbed with a first coat comprising polymers of alkyl acrylates or alkyl methacrylates, or copolymers of either of these with themselves or each other or with methacrylic acid, vinyl acetate, 4-vinyl pyridine or acrylonitrile, a second coat of cellulose nitrate and a third coat of gelatin, as described in Specification 787,480 for the subbing of polystyrene film base. A gelatino-silver halide emulsion may then be applied. The first subbing coat may be methyl methacrylate/ methacrylic acid copolymer, methyl methacrylate/4 - vinyl pyridine copolymer, or n - propyl methacrylate/methyl acrylate copolymer, dissolved in a mixture of methanol, benzene, cyclohexane and ethyl lactate. The second coat may comprise cellulose nitrate, methanol and methyl acetate, and the third coat may comprise gelatin, salicylic acid, water, methanol, 74‹O.P. spirit and acetone.
