Abstract

890,508. Photographic transfer processes. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. April 11, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 11548/58. Class 98(2). An exposed silver halide emulsion layer is developed in the presence of a polymerizable vinyl monomer with a silver halide developing agent which forms free radicals upon oxidation, to initiate polymerization of the monomer, and in the presence of a silver halide solvent, whilst superposed on an imagereceiving element to produce a transfer image on the latter. The polymer produced assists in preventing transfer of undeveloped silver halide from the exposed areas and staining in the highlights of the transferred positive image. Preferably the monomer is dissolved or emulsified in the liquid emulsion before coating to form the sensitive layer but may be used in the developing solution and, additionally, in the receiving element. Common developers such as p-aminophenol hydrochloride and common monomers including various acrylates are listed for the purpose. Use of the monomers in colour diffusion transfer processes is indicated. Specification 714,412 is referred to.
