Abstract
813,365. Charge level indicators. COCKSEDGE & CO. Ltd. Sept. 5, 1957 [May 17, 1957], No. 15752/57. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for indicating and/or recording changes in the level of the height of the charge in a lime kiln 15 comprises elongated weights 10 and 11 connected by a wire rope 12 running over pulleys 13 and 14 so that the weight 10 acts as a probe inside the kiln and the weight 11 is operatively connected to indicating and/or recording apparatus. A transverse bar 23 on the rod 11 and attached to a chain 25 transmits movements of the probe 10 to an indicating recording instrument 30, through chain and sprocket gearing 25, 26, 27, 33 and 32 by known mechanical or electrical means. The other end of the bar 23 is attached to a chain 34 driven by a motor 45 through chain and sprocket gearing 34, 36 and 37 and a gear-box 46. During charging, the probe 10 is lifted by a pin 40 on the chain 34 engaging notches 41, 42 on the bar 23. Projections 43 and 48 on the chain 34 respectively operate limit switches 44 and 47 to stop the motor 45 as it raises or lowers the probe. A projection 49 on the chain 25 engages a limit switch 50 when the burden falls to a certain level to start the motor 45 raising the probe. The latter slides in brass sleeves 17 forming a gland in a steel tube 18 and in a further gland 20, said glands acting as seals to the kiln.
