872,821. Sampling liquids. RAMSDEN & SON Ltd., R. Nov. 16, 1959 [Dec. 17, 1958], No. 40702/58. Class 106(5) A can 1 for taking samples of liquid at a selected level in a bulk supply comprises weighting means 10, a push-fit stopper 19 securable in an opening 3, a flexible coupling 16 for pulling the stopper out of the opening when the can is at the selected level in the supply, and an inverted U-shaped handle 7, 8 which is pivoted to the upper part of the can and is formed at its central portion with a ring 15 serving as a guide for the flexible coupling and a stop to prevent passage of the stopper when the latter has been pulled clear of the opening. The coupling 16 is in the form of a cord attached to a ring 17 connected to the stopper 19, and the ring 15 is arranged to be smaller than the ring 17 and so act as a stop for the stopper. The can is lowered into the supply by a chain 22 and weighting of it is effected by a lead base 10 mounted in a ring 11 soldered to the can.
