[Class 125 (ii)] The stem B of a funnel or like filling device I, which provides for automatic cessation of flow of liquid therefrom, is provided with an upward extension A surrounded by a tube C closed at its upper end, the length of that part of the tube C which surrounds the extension A being greater than the diameter of the tube, and the cross sectional area of the annular space R, or of the entrance thereto or exit therefrom, being less than that of the extension A, so that the extension does not run full. When the liquid in the container M covers the exit from the stem B, air is trapped in the stem; and flow ceases when the head O becomes equal to the head N. The tube C is then lowered, by pressing a pushbutton F, until the extension A is closed by a leather or other resilient washer D, when the funnel may be removed from the container. The body of the funnel I is so dimensioned in relation to the length of the spout B that the container M cannot be made to overflow without first causing the funnel itself to overflow.
