Abstract
1390695 Testing earth-leakage circuit breakers S L RAMAGE 5 Nov 1973 51293/73 Heading G1U A device for testing an earth-leakage circuit breaker comprises means for simulating an earth leakage fault of a pre-settable amount (e.g 30mA) and means for indicating whether the breaker has opened within a selectable time period (e.g 30ms). As described the time period is related to the time taken for one of a set of rods 3, fig. I, to fall under gravity through a verticle tube 2 from an initial position in which its lower most end just blocks a lamp 4 from a viewing window 6, to final position in which the lamp just becomes visible, and the simulated earth fault is made at the instant an upper portion metallic portion of the rod-the lower portion being plastics-passes a sensor 7, 8. If the breaker opens sufficiently rapidly then the lamp 4 is extinguished before it becomes visible, whereas otherwise it is not and an observer will see some light from the lamp.
