812,960. Electrophotographic processes. BATELLE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 12, 1955 [Sept. 22, 1954], No. 26048/55. Class 98(2) A charged photoconductive layer 16 on a conductive backing 15 is exposed to penetrating radiation, such as X-rays, in a dark slide comprising an insulating frame 12 carrying a conductive slide 13 which is connected during exposure to a potential positive with respect to the charge on the photoconductive layer. Ionization in the air space 17 is prevented, and "undercutting" eliminated. The photoconductive layer may be given a uniform charge of 600-700 volts, placed in the cassette and given an imagewise X-ray exposure through slide 13 while the latter is maintained at 750-1800 volts with respect to the backing 15. The cassette may have a thick metal base 21 of steel, brass or lead. The slide 13 may be of aluminium. If base 21 is omitted, exposure may be through the backing 15. Specification 721,944 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 746,905.
