Abstract
812,670. Electromagnetic interaction pumps. MINNEAPOLIS - HONEYWELL REGULATOR CO. Oct. 22, 1957 [Oct. 23, 1956], No. 32935/57. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVI] A very narrow duct for an interaction pump or flow-meter is built up of two electrodes that form one pair of opposite walls and two insulated corrosion-resisting pole-faces that form the remaining pair of walls, the whole being secured together and made fluid-tight by an insulating bonding material. As shown in Fig. 1 and the exploded view of Fig. 3, conductors 26, 27 having inwardly projecting electrodes 28, 36 which form the edges of the duct, are joined to a strap 17 which forms a single current-generating turn of a transformer 13. Each of the electrodes 28, 36 projects through a slot 43 in a piece of insulating tape 40, 42 respectively. A flat magnetic pole structure comprising polepieces 46, 47 mechanically joined by non-magnetic spacers 50, 51, lies between the insulating members 40, 42. The pole-faces 53, 54 are covered with foils 55, 56 of high-resistance steel secured in place by an insulating adhesive. Under heat and pressure, the insulating members 40, 42 are cured and bonded to the surrounding metal surfaces. The duct 57 is joined to the external circuit, as shown, a fluid-operated device 10, through holes 41 in insulating member 40 and holes 30, 31 in the conductor 26. Flux is passed across the poles 46, 47 from a core 61 joined to them by side pieces such as 63 and carrying an A.C. coil 60.
