Abstract

963,715. Transformers. HUGHES INTERNATIONAL (U.K.) Ltd. Nov. 27, 1962 [Nov. 27, 1961], No. 42373/61. Heading H1T. A continuous differential phase transformer comprises three or more input coils A, B, C, energizable by voltages having a progressive phase difference, an output coil P and a ferrous core element E mechanically longitudinally displaceable relative to coils A, B, C and P, to produce in coil P a continuous electrical displacement of phase proportional to the linear displacement of the core element E. The circuit connections are shown in Fig. 2. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) there are six input coils and the energizing voltages are spaced 60 degrees electrical apart which reduces errors in the amplitude and linearity of the output. As an alternative, the output coil may be between the input coils and the core elements.
