Abstract

812,646. Ball bearings. BURMAN & SONS Ltd., and BRIGGS, W. H. Sept. 30, 1957 [Nov. 28, 1956], No. 36357/56. Class 12 (1). A self-aligning ball bearing comprises a row of balls located between a V-groove in a shaft c and a pair of complementary ball races a, b, the race b being fixed in a housing f and the race a being freely slidable in the housing in a direction at right angles to the axis of the shaft. The outer side face of the race a is supported by a flat end-plate g which closes the open end of the housing, either by direct contact with the housing or through a shim h. The ball-contacting surfaces of the races and groove are inclined at 45 degrees to the shaft axis.
